What is The 1 Second Film?
The 1 Second Film is a non-profit film that anyone in the world can help produce, alongside major celebrities, simply by donating $1 or more.
The project is built around one-second of animation made of 12 large paintings that were created simultaneously by hundreds of participants during a collaborative art event at California Institute of the Arts on March 8, 2001 (International Women's Day).
The animation will be followed by 90-minutes of credits which include a feature-length "making of" documentary, detailing how collaborative art can bring people together to make a difference.
Any and all profits raised by the finished film will be donated to the Global Fund for Women.
Our thousands of producers will all be listed in order of amount donated in the feature-length film credits. Producers of The 1 Second Film are also given a producer profile on The 1 Second Film website (www.the1secondfilm.com) where they can upload photos, videos, blogs, and connect/collaborate with other producers. By combining social networking with collaborative art, the project empowers many small contributions to make a difference.
This project is the start of a 5 Phase Plan to bring the world together, one second at a time, using collaborative art to address critical social issues.

What is the Road to Oprah?
The Road to Oprah is a quest to ask Oprah for $1 to join the producers of The 1 Second Film. On October of 2007, our documentary crew- joined by Folk/Americana band The Evangenitals, traveled in a bio-diesel school bus across America, stopping at Google, YouTube, universities and house parties to present The 1 Second Film and our 5 Phase Plan to bring the world together. The trip culminated in Chicago, where we hoped to ask Oprah to join our producers... unfortunately, Oprah was not in Chicago when we arrived, so our quest continues!
The journey will be included as part of The 1 Second Film's making of documentary.
Why Oprah?
Receiving $1 from Oprah would symbolize a powerful idea that this film is built around; that idea is micro-collaboration- lot's of people helping to make something in many small ways. Having Oprah as a producer of our film would help lay a foundation for creating collaboration on a global scale by helping us reach more people. Before finishing our film/documentary, our goal is to create a cultural 'Tipping Point' and to bring as many people as we can together. No tipping point would be complete without at least trying to get Oprah on board.
Why $1?
We want to make a film that anyone in the world can be a part of. Fundraising with thousands of small donations allows us to make an independent movie and documentary outside of the traditional Hollywood system; it also allows us to donate all profits raised to another great cause, passing on the goodwill with which the film is being made.
What will Oprah do?
We have no idea! Follow our journey, and we will find out together. We keep a production blog here: The 1 Second Blog
What if Oprah doesn't donate the dollar?
This film is about the journey and the process in which it is being made. We don't know what Oprah will do, or even if she will have time to meet us, but we intend to give it our best shot and to have a lot of fun along the way. :)
Where does money donated to The 1 Second Film go?
Donations to The 1 Second Film help finance our documentary, including post-production for the film, and the creation of our on-line collaborative community. All profits raised by our finished film (the sale of the art, DVDs, merchandice, etc.), will be donated to the Global Fund for Women. If Oprah donates $1, her dollar will also be auctioned off after our premiere to raise money for our charitable beneficiary.

Who is on the Road to Oprah Crew?
Two groups join forces to form the RTO Crew: The Film Crew and The Band (The Evangenitals). The Evangenitals will be performing songs about the journey along the way, to be incorporated in the documentary.
The Film Crew
Nirvan Mullick, the director/creator or The 1 Second Film is an award winning animator turned social-entrepreneur who started this project while a student at CalArts. Nirvan has since presented the film to hundreds of students around the country as well as dozens of celebrities on the sidewalk.
Michael Brodersen cinematographer and post-production supervisor is the reason this film is in 70mm.
Levi Brewster, director of Frame 11, will be designing our bio-diesel school bus and joining us on the road to fix it when it breaks. Levi has watched The Muppet Movie multiple times for research.
The Band:
The Evangenitals are fronted by Juli Crockett, the group's principal songwriter and lead vocalist who is also a playwright, stage director, a PhD student in philosophy, a retired undefeated professional boxer, the official Producer and Director of Awesome (and PR) for The 1 Second Film. She is also rumored to be the inspiration for Hillary Swank's character in the Oscar winning feature film Million Dollar Baby.
Brett Lyda, additional songwriter and principal guitarist for the band, is often referred to as "coach" by his bandmates for being the group's other musical director. Lisa Dee harmonizes like the Opera singer she is, and George Bernardo beats the drums like a pro, because he is one.
Lisa Dee is an operatic soprano with an extensive resume in classical music and experimental jazz. She is the group's "sophisticated lady" and her ability to take years of musical training and distill it into a simpler southern approach for the band is likely one of her greatest assets.
George Bernardo (who has gigged with the likes of Bad Company, Chuck Berry, and Bo Diddley) plays the drums.

2. Tell Friends
This is the simplest and most effective way to spread the word and help produce film history! Invite your friends to join, or buy them a credit as a gift :)
Help us reach more people by reaching the media! Tell newspapers, radio stations, tv shows, magazines, and any other media channel that will listen about The 1 Second Film. Feel free to download our latest Press Release and pass it on.
If you are a student or alumni of a school, please contact your Student Activities Coordinator and tell them to book The 1 Second Film.
5. Volunteer & Spread the Word
We can always use a hand. Fill in your volunteer preferences in your producer profile (you get a profile on the1secondfilm.com after donating $1) and let us know how you would like to get involved. Feel free to contact us at volunteers(at)the1secondfilm(dot)com.
6. Donate
Why is this #6?! We really do need financial resources to finish this film and to make it a success. If you donated $1 to become a producer of the 1 Second Film, $1.01 will put you above hundreds of people in the credits! $10 takes you out of “associate” status and makes you a full-fledged “producer.” $100 makes you an “executive.” $500 and it’s tax-deductible! Have a favorite celebrity? Find them in our Celebrity Producer List and get close to them by matching or beating their donation. Have a favorite celebrity who isn’t a producer yet? Send them some fan mail and tell them to come on board! And don't forget to send in for your free producer Business Cards! :)
